The second case, which shook the nation was the rape and murder of an 8-yr-old in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua outraged after the details of the brutality was exposed in the chargesheet.

Over the next week, she was drugged, starved, repeatedly gangraped and then murdered.

Two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ministers leaders, Chandra Prakash Ganga and Lal Singh, have also resigned following accusations of attending a rally in support of the miscreants responsible for the crime. The body of the girl was recovered from the Rassana forest in January, a week after she went missing from the area while grazing horses.

Sanji Ram was joined by special police officers Deepak Khajuria and Surender Verma, friend Parvesh Kumar alias Mannu, Ram's nephew, a juvenile, and his son Vishal Jangotra alias "Shamma".

According to the police charge sheet, the gang rape was committed to scare the nomadic Muslim community and force them into fleeing the Hindu dominated district. A police sub-inspector and a head constable too have been arrested on charges of destroying evidence.

In turn, Mehbooba lauded the country's political leadership, the judiciary, the media and the civil society for standing with the J&K Government to ensure justice in Kathua case. The protesters waved Indian flags and shouted patriotic and religious slogans.

People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the BJP are the parties which jointly rule the trouble-torn State of Jammu & Kashmir.

"The Law will not be obstructed by the irresponsible actions and statements of a group of people".

An indefinite hunger strike by Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal demanding death penalty for rapists entered the third day on Sunday even as two more minors were raped across the country.

In an earlier tweet she also said it was comforting to see the Supreme Court pull up the Jammu bar association for blocking justice in the rape and murder case of minor girl.

People congregated at the Chhatrapati Shivaji statue on Juhu beach to hold a candlelight protest for justice for the victims.

The two countries have fought three wars - in 1948, 1965 and 1971 - since they were partitioned in 1947, two of which were fought over Kashmir. A cease-fire came into effect in 2003.
