Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium with Dual Rear Cameras Announced

16 April 2018

Starting off with the design, Sony has tried to keep the design similar to the Xperia XZ2 that launched this year at MWC. The only difference is that there is now a dual camera setup on the back, something we missed on Xperia XZ2. The XZ2 Premium will be available on the shelves this summer and should be priced around $900 -$1000. Now it's Sony's turn to boldly claim that its phone camera is the most advanced there is.

In terms of design, the XZ2 Premium builds upon the design scheme of the Xperia XZ2, which means that it also looks greatly inspired by the HTC U11.

Sony has just unveiled its flagship smartphone for 2018. Things change a bit on the front as there is no 18:9 display as the Xperia XZ2. Certified IP65/IP68 [iii], XZ2 Premium is also created to withstand splashes and spills. It is backed by a 3,540mAh non-removable battery and also supports QuickCharge 3.0 and Qi wireless charging. And here, in this case, the Xperia XZ2 Premium comes with a 5.8-inch HDR display with 4K resolution and the aspect ratio is just 16:9.

Under the hood, it is powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor that's mated to 6GB of RAM. As expected, it is another premium flagship smartphone that boasts of premium specs including ultra-high sensitive dual cameras that are capable of 4K HDR display and movie recording.

The main camera has a large 19 MP 1/2.3” Exmor RS sensor, f/1.8 lens, and 1.22μm pixel size. The lens is f/1.6, while the pixel size is 1.55μm. Most of you are aware of the fact that the ISO measures the sensitivity of the sensor.

"Given the strength of the existing Xperia XZ range, specifically the XZ2, XZ2 Compact, and XZ Premium, there are now no plans for widespread ranging of the handset [XZ2 Premium] in the United Kingdom and Ireland".

Sony has also fitted the Xperia XZ2 Premium with a better front-facing camera, 13MP on the Premium, compared to 5MP on the XZ2. Right off the bat, the smartphone is running Android Oreo 8.0 and features dimensions of 80mm x 158mm x 6.4-11.9mm with a weight of 236 grams. Like any Sony flagship smartphone, it also comes with IP68 dust and water resistance.

There might not be a headphone jack added to the smartphone, but at least you are getting a USB Type-C to 3.5mm audio jack adapter in the packaging.

Xperia XZ2 Premium supports USB Type-C audio and comes with Stereo speaker with S-Force Front Surround, DSEE HX and LDAC. It will be available in Summer 2018 in single-SIM and dual-SIM variants, as well as Chrome Black and Chrome Silver colour variants.
