KKR canter to 71-run win over Delhi

17 April 2018

Even as wickets fell, Rana ensured that the innings would never lose impetus. Last night here in Kolkata, we were obviously 25-30 runs short with the bat and that put us under pressure with the ball.

Rana and Russell stitched together a 61-run partnership in just 22 balls for the fifth wicket.

Kolkata had made a winning start to their campaign against Royals Challenger Bangalore but successive defeats to Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the next two matches have put them in a spot of bother.

The result: Kolkata Knight Riders 9-200 (Rana 59, Russell 41, Tewatia 3-18) defeated Delhi Daredevils 10-129 (Maxwell 47, Narine 3-18) by 71 runs.

Karthik would also hope that his deputy Robin Uthappa, who is a KKR veteran, shoulders more responsibility with the bat as his scores of 13, 29 and 3 have been a big letdown. He hit 5 fours and 5 sixes until KKR's skipper took his catch. Chris Lynn 6 (11), Sunil Narine 1 (1). Like Uthappa, captain Dinesh Karthik looked good in his brief innings of 19. Man-of-the-Match Nitish played a totally contrasting innings and picked his gaps nicely during his 59 off 35 balls. KKR have lost their last two games and have some serious issues to fix with their team.

The big-hitting Russell smashed six sixes, Mohammed Shami in particular coming in for some treatment while Jason Roy was left to rue putting down a hard chance to remove the dangerman when he had only seven to his name.

STAT ATTACK: This is Gambhir's 50th match at the Eden.

KKR will be mlooking to bring back Sunil Narine at top of the order after the move to bring him down the order in the last game backfired.

The consistency and experience of the two DD pacers like Mohammad Shami and Trent Boult.

Kolkata Knight Riders have bated well and set the target as 200 runs from 20 Overs for Delhi Daredevils.

Delhi Daredevils skipper Gautam Gambhir was once again lucky to win the toss and opted to bowl first as they included Chris Morris in the playing XI at the expense of Daniel Christian. As the 16th April seems like the pitch update and weather reports sound calm for the T20 match between KKR vs DD.
