She will reprise her role as Donna in the Mamma Mia sequel and she will also appear in Mary Poppins Returns, playing a character named Topsy.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Meryl Streep is set to star in The Laundromat.

Netflix previously set a movie on the scandal by German journalists Frederik Obermaier and Bastian Obermayer, who broke the story and wrote the book Panama Papers: Breaking the Story of How the World's Rich and Powerful Hide Their Money. The Panama Papers are almost 12 million documents that detail private financial information about offshore business entities.

The Panama Papers were leaked documents that showed how Mossack Fonseca, a Panamanian law firm, allowed the wealthy and the connected to funnel money illegally in and around the world. Michael Sugar, Lawrence Grey, Gregory Jacobs, Soderbergh and Scott Z Burns are producing the film.

The documents were leaked anonymously in 2015. "Secrecy World" offers a disturbing and sobering view of how the world really works and raises critical questions about financial and legal institutions we may once have trusted. Following her portrayal of The Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham in The Post, Streep seems to be continuing her streak of being the emotional center of films that deal with classified documents.

The 68-year-old actress is being lined up to appear in the forthcoming drama film, "The Laundromat", and Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas are also said to be in early discussions about appearing in the motion picture.

Ms Caruana Galizia's son, Matthew Caruana Galizia, was part of the Pulitzer-winning team of journalists and data miners that released the Panama Paper revelations.
