Tiger Woods to play in the Jack Nicklaus' Memorial Tournament

17 May 2018

"I am pleased that the Memorial Tournament once again is drawing a wonderful field", Nicklaus said in a release.

Before The Memorial gets underway, Woods will play in the May 30 pro-am event with former National Football League quarterback Peyton Manning.

Tournament officials announced the pairing Wednesday.

Tiger Woods of the United States plays a shot on the 13th hole during the final round of THE PLAYERS Championship on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass on May 13, 2018 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Woods has won the Columbus tournament five times in his career, his most recent victory in 2012.

Woods has secured four top-12 finishes, including a share of 11th at last week's Players Championship, in the eight events he has played since returning to the PGA Tour following spinal fusion surgery in April 2017.

Woods will likely skip the FedEx St. Jude Classic (he's never played in the Memphis tournament), which sites between the Memorial and U.S. Open. The 14-time Major champion last played the tournament in 2015. New world number one Justin Thomas joins Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Jason Day among those already committed to feature in an event that holds a special place on the PGA Tour as it is hosted by Hall of Famer Jack Nicklaus. Jason Dufner won it previous year.

"He's been very close, and having won five times at Muirfield Village, I wouldn't be surprised if he contended to win his sixth".

"This weekend was extremely positive", Woods said after the Players.
