A skygazer in Sydney watches the blood moon.
Lunar eclipses occur from two to four times a year, but not all of them are visible.
28 July 2018 seen from different locations. NASA estimates the moon will be completely obscured for 1 hour and 43 minutes. Including that penumbral time, the eclipse will last for 3 hours and 55 minutes. Totality will begin at 19:30 GMT and last until 21:13 GMT.
A Micro Full Moon takes place when the Moon is at its apogee - the point on its orbit farthest from the Earth. Go look at the moon already!
Unfortunately, the live stream is the only way those of us in North America will get to witness the blood red moon.
Skywatchers around much of the world are looking forward to a complete lunar eclipse that will be the longest this century.
Total lunar eclipses are a rare occurrence. On the banks of India's Ganges, temples were closed ahead of the eclipse. The eclipse will be visible from eastern South America as it is ending, and from Australia as it is beginning.
Earth's umbra is the longest and widest when the Earth is at or close to the Aphelion. It can pass through the outer, fainter shadow, called the penumbra.
Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan, a wing of the education department, also organised a slideshow on lunar eclipse for around 50 children.
"The moon is not always in flawless alignment with the sun and the Earth, so that is why we do not get a lunar eclipse every lunar cycle", Brad Tucker, an astronomer with the Australian National University's Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, said in a statement.

Andrew Fabian, professor of astronomy at Cambridge University, explained that light from the sun goes through the earth's atmosphere on its way to the moon. In 2003, Mars came closest to our planet in nearly 60,000 years.
2018's opposition of Mars isn't as spectacular as 2003's, but will still be a sight to see.
Clouds have hindered Perth's view of the longest blood moon this century, but it didn't stop stargazers from making the most of the small window to see the phenomenon this morning.
The agency added the January eclipse will also be seen by Britons, who after tonight will enjoy a double-whammy of space action come winter. It wasn't visible in the USA, but it could be seen from places like South America, Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.
Although Mars is visible in the night sky all year round, it will be extremely bright on July 27.
This visibility of the lunar eclipse in India is expected to be pretty good but cloudy sky and inclement weather are likely to hurt the chances of being able to watch the phenomenon.
Also, those in the United Kingdom will miss a section of the eclipse due to the moon being below our horizon when it starts, which gives south-eastern observers a slightly better advantage than the north-western ones.
Scientists describe a total lunar eclipse as a "freak of cosmic happenstance".
The red sheen that the moon will take on is entirely dependent on how much dust is in the Earth's atmosphere.
"Eclipse is the time when we realise that the universe is extremely grand where things move constantly". These similar eclipses make up a Saros series. The series has 71 eclipses.
