'Blood moon' to appear today for 21st Century's longest lunar eclipse

The complete duration of the total lunar eclipse would be 103 minutes or 1 hour 43 minutes. Just before the lunar eclipse event, the moon reached its apogee, its farthest point from Earth.

The Red Planet was closer to the Earth and brighter than it has been in 15 years, making for some spectacular images.
