Women’s safety merely a slogan in BJP-ruled states, says Akhilesh

Officials told IANS that 18 girls are missing from the privately-run shelter home which earlier got funds from the government, but whose affiliation to the women and child welfare department was cancelled past year after a CBI probe revealed some discrepancies. When the returned in the morning, they used to cry, ' the girl said according to Economic Times.

The minor who had escaped from the shelter home has told the police that girls were taken at night and used to return in the morning while a lot of them used to cry.

"We know it's been done to put pressure on Nitish Kumar to politically marginalize him so that he can not bargain for more seats in the run-up to the coming Lok Sabha election", said a JD (U) leader, while quickly adding that, "they're not politically novice to understand such moves...let the time come and everything will be responded properly".

The police found out about the matter when a ten-year-old who was living at the shelter managed to escape and tell the police about what was happening.

"We will probe how it was functioning till now and see who is responsible for this", she said. Over 30 girls were allegedly raped at a shelter home run by one Brajesh Thakur, the chief of the state-funded NGO.

"But the manager was running the home and told us that the high court has given a stay".

"The Patna HC has given two weeks time to the CBI to prepare a report on Muzaffarpur shelter home case".

While the Congress demanded a CBI probe into the incident, the Samajwadi Party alleged that the present government is not serious about the issues concerning women.

"He [Mr. Kumar] was forced to recommend a CBI inquiry into the case as the Union Home Minister made an announcement, putting him in an embarrassing situation..."

Meanwhile, the opposition has been attacking the Adityanath-led BJP government on the issue.
