Cynthia Nixon makes final pitch to progressives in NY governor primary

"I have no idea who this brilliant lady is..."

Meanwhile, a Siena College poll conducted before the weekend shows Cuomo's lead widening over Nixon to 41 points, at 63 percent to 22 percent.

His favorability rating is 68-24 percent, up from 67-29 in July, while Nixon's has slipped from 43-30 to 41-33 percent.

Cuomo spent the first few days of September making daily announcements on infrastructure achievements, including the groundbreaking of a third track for the Long Island Rail Road, a new and brighter entrance to the beleaguered Penn Station, and last Friday, the opening of the final span of the Mario Cuomo Bridge, named after the governor's late father.

"New York deserves a leader as progressive as its people", Nixon says.

Democrats go to the polls Thursday in New York's gubernatorial primary.

The opening was pushed back because of concerns that a piece of the old Tappan Zee Bridge could fall onto the new bridge.

Nixon's bid, which began with a jolt in March, seemed to bog down as the campaign entered its summer slog and Cuomo, a hardened campaigner with deep pockets, consolidated establishment support with an endorsement from Hillary Clinton during the state party convention in late May.

"They will show up and make themselves heard", Ms. Hitt said. "It was wrong, it was inappropriate, and they are offering the Nixon campaign a mailer if they want it", he said.

Cuomo controls the state Democratic Party and recently transferred $2.5 million to its account for election-related expenses.

New York Democratic Party executive director Geoff Berman vowed Saturday via "It will not happen again".

But it's unlikely that the party could send out a mailer on behalf of the Nixon campaign before the primary.

"I am the mother of Jewish children and I am very alarmed by the rise of anti-Semitism in this country and globally I am frightened for my children, I am frightened for my world", Nixon said. Matilda Cuomo did not campaign for her son four years ago but did for her late husband, Mario Cuomo, who was governor from 1983 to 1995.
