Spurs duo Lloris, Alli to miss Liverpool, Inter clashes

14 September 2018

France World Cup victor and Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been fined KSh 6.5 million (R950 000) after pleading guilty to driving home drunk following a night out with fellow France teammates.

Son gives Spurs another option in attack, while Pochettino defended Harry Kane, whose form has been criticised in a start to the season when the World Cup Golden Boot victor has seemed to lack sharpness.

His teammate, Dele Alli, has also been ruled out of the Liverpool game after picking up a hamstring injury while on worldwide duty with England.

The Argentine boss confirmed Lloris would continue in the captain's role and again insisted the goalkeeper regrets the incident after he was banned from driving for 20 months on Wednesday and fined £50k. He made a mistake and is suffering, and is punishing himself.

'But of course we're not God, that we can judge people.

"He's the first [to accept it was a mistake], he told me, "Gaffer, it's a massive lesson for me".

Pochettino said Lloris would remain captain despite his drink-driving case, replying "of course" when asked whether that would be the case.

"It's a massive lesson for everyone. Now I need to pay like a man".

Alli's absence will leave a huge void needing to be filled in Mauricio Pochettino's team and it will be interesting to see who comes in to replace the England global this weekend.

'I am learning a lot!' Pochettino joked.

Meanwhile, midfielder Moussa Sissoko is expected to return to training next week after a hamstring injury.

"First of all I want to congratulate him, because it's such an important victory to avoid the military service", he said.

"We are disappointed because we are going to miss him for this game and maybe against Inter in the Champions League". He has trained so hard and I am so happy with his evolution.

"We know Harry Kane very well and have worked with him for more than four years and we know it's not a situation that worries us".

"Hopefully everything is going well and he can be back as soon as possible, like Dele".
