The GRAMMYs turned out several awkward moment on Sunday night and Jennifer Lopez is baring the brunt of the burns coming from social media after her Motown tribute failed to impress the masses.

The Latino pop star's medley of Dancing In The Street, Mr Postman, and Tears Of A Clown during Black History Month in the USA caused much derision on social media.

"I don't think anyone who is intelligent is upset", he said.

Previously, he had said that he thinks "anyone who is upset is stupid".

Former first lady Michelle Obama was also at the ceremony.

After J-Lo's performance, Motown updated the label's Twitter account noting its cultural relevance, writing: "FROM ITS ROOTS 60 YEARS AGO WITH BERRY GORDY, $800, AND A DREAM, MOTOWN DOESN'T JUST PUT OUT INFLUENTIAL MUSIC-IT TRANSFORMS THE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE. Who's stupid enough to protest Jennifer Lopez for doing Motown".

For her part Lopez was in tears talking to "Entertainment Tonight" after her performance. "You can't tell people what to love", she said.

Lopez performed "Please Mr. Postman" while wearing a black ensemble with white feathers and accompanied by a group of dancers.

Lopez explained that she's a lifelong Motown fan who grew up listening to the label's hits with her mom. How do you do a Motown tribute without an ALL BLACK cast of artists?!

"Regardless of feelings and opinions about the #Grammys tribute performance, can we take a minute to celebrate the history and the power of #Motown, its artists and its music?". Thanks to Berry Gordy, "Motown became a model of black capitalism, pride, and self-expression and a repository for some of the greatest talent ever assembled at one company..."

Lalah Hathaway's whole body and self was sitting in the audience during a soulless Motown tribute.

Besides Robinson, one person who was most definitely thrilled to see Lopez perform the tribute at the Grammys was her boyfriend, former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.

U.S. singer Jennifer Lopez arrives for the 61st Annual Grammy Awards on February 10, 2019, in Los Angeles.

Clearly, people were upset on behalf of the Motown legends they grew up loving.
