Disney stock soars after release of streaming service

Disney announced Thursday that its video streaming service would launch in the United States in November, spotlighting its blockbuster-making studios as it takes on powerhouse Netflix.

Disney+ is set to sport a variety of new content including four new Marvel TV shows alongside a live action Star Wars TV show called The Mandalorian.

"These will be both new and continuing stories, and one of the things we're most excited about is that these will be major storylines set in the MCU with ramifications that will be felt both through the other Disney+ series we're producing and are features on the big screen".

Disney+ will launch "with a robust library of theatrical and television content" and will release more than 25 original series and 10 original films, documentaries and specials in its first year, according to the company.

Pixar Animation Studios • Toy Story-based projects, Forky Asks a Question animated short series, and Lamp Life short film. Each episode will explore a pivotal moment from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and turn it on its head, leading the audience into uncharted territory.

Tom Hiddleston's reaction came back in November when they first announced that a Loki series was being developed for Disney+.

"We're extremely excited about our growing portfolio of direct-to-consumer offerings", said Kevin Mayer, Disney's chairman of direct-to-consumer and global content.

The entertainment world was in awe when it was revealed that the Walt Disney Company had been in talks to purchase 21st Century Fox from Rupert Murdoch's Fox Corporation. "We'll continue to enhance the user experience with a constant pipeline of high-quality programming, making the service even more appealing to consumers". Starting November 12, you'll be able to stream hundreds of Disney-owned movies, shows, and originals!

Disney stressed plans to use its coveted content, and original creations to come, to differentiate itself in the increasingly competitive streaming television market. Subscribers will be able to create custom profiles and receive content recommendations based on unique tastes, past behavior, and preferred content.

The Disney+ service will be available on a wide range of mobile and connected devices, including gaming consoles, streaming media players and smart TVs, and will adjust to the best possible high-definition viewing experience based on a subscriber's available bandwidth, with support for up to 4K HDR video playback.

Netflix has until now shown a clean pair of heels to all-comers, but is facing a much stiffer test as the Hollywood studios pull their content to boost their own planned rival streaming services. You can see that slide below. Will you be signing up?
