Russell Wilson won't sign with Seattle Seahawks after self-imposed deadline

17 April 2019

Wilson posted a video on social media early Tuesday saying, "Seattle, we got a deal", shortly after agreeing to a $140 million, four-year extension with the Seahawks, his agent Mark Rodgers told The Associated Press.

Russell, who is now "contractually tied" to the Seahawks through the 2023 season, surpasses Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers "richest" contract, which included a new-money $35.5 million annual average per season and a $57.5 million signing bonus.

His side had given the Seahawks a deadline of midnight Monday for a new contract, and according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, did not intend to revisit negotiations this year if there wasn't a deal by that point.

Wilson's current $87.6 million, four-year deal was signed at the beginning of training camp in 2015 and was set to expire after next season. "Go Hawks! But, I'm gonna see y'all in the morning".

Remember those times when you'd sprint at the last minute to get your taxes filed just under the April 15 deadline? Wilson remains, having won more games in his first seven seasons than any quarterback in National Football League history and coming off arguably his best season. The Seahawks have reportedly asked for an absurd three or four first-round draft picks, but we know a few teams in this league desperate enough to pull the trigger.

See more on Wilson and Ciara below. Not even close. Having to face Wilson at least twice a year for the next five seasons isn't great news for any of the Seahawks' three division rivals. "You're always the first person in, and the last person out". He threw 35 touchdowns to seven interceptions in 2018, while completing 65.6 percent of his pass attempts. If the Cowboys think life gets easier as their quarterback gains experience, it's nearly like they've forgotten the oldest rule in the book.

Wilson is confirming the contract agreement on Twitter. He also ran only 67 times, a career low, as the improved run game and offensive line play allowed Wilson to stay in the pocket more and scramble for his life less.

"I know he's my husband and of course you're gonna think the world of your partner, but I really do believe he's one of the best ever to do it, and it's really cool to watch him on his journey", Ciara continued. Your dedication, consistency & commitment to the game never wavers.

Will Wilson potentially going year-to-year make it easier for Seattle to secure long-term extensions for the trio, or will it make Seahawks general manager John Schneider more concerned about money, leading to a series of franchise-gutting moves? "I'm excited about that".
